Farming

Maui is a tropical agricultural powerhouse, and each region offers a unique way to experience "Grown on Maui" culture—from the massive pineapple fields of the Northside to the misty lavender farms Upcountry.

Westside: Kaanapali / Lahaina

While much of this area is dedicated to tourism, the fertile land above the resorts supports tropical fruit and organic vegetable production.

Northside: Wailuku / Kahului

This is the commercial heart of Maui agriculture, where large-scale operations and the island’s biggest community gatherings happen.

  • Farms & Markets

    • Maui Swap Meet (Saturdays): Held at UH Maui College, this is the island’s largest open-air market. The back rows are filled with local farmers selling everything from taro to tropical flowers at local prices.

    • Kumu Farms (at Maui Tropical Plantation): A premium farm stand offering high-quality organic greens, sunrise papayas, and gourmet pesto.

Upcountry: Paia / Makawao / Haiku

Upcountry is the true "breadbasket" of Maui. The cooler elevation allows for crops like strawberries, lavender, and cool-weather greens that don't grow well on the coast.
