Bike Tours

1. Haleakalā Downhill Tours

This is the "must-do" bike experience on Maui. You are driven up the volcano and bike down roughly 26 miles from the park entrance (6,500 ft) to the coast.

  • Guided Tours: You ride in a group with a lead guide and a follow-van for safety.

    • Cruiser Phil’s: Known for high-energy guided tours and great storytelling.

    • Mountain Riders: Offers both sunrise and daytime guided descents with hotel pickup options.

  • Self-Guided (Self-Paced) Tours: You get the bike and gear, but you ride at your own speed, stopping whenever you want for breakfast or shopping.

    • Maui Sunriders: Specializes in "ride at your own pace" tours; great for families who want to stop in towns like Makawao.

    • Bike Maui: Offers both guided and self-guided options, including sunrise tours that take you to the very summit first.

3. Mountain & Off-Road Biking

Maui has some incredible dirt trails through eucalyptus forests and private ranches.

  • Makawao Forest Reserve: Home to the Kahakapao Trails (singletrack and flow trails). Most people rent bikes from Krank Cycles in Makawao to ride here.

  • Skyline Trail: An extreme 10-mile descent starting from the 10,000-ft summit on loose volcanic rock. This is usually a self-organized ride using rentals from shops like West Maui Cycles.

  • Private Ranch E-MTB Tours: Guided electric mountain bike tours on private land in Wailea/South Maui, offering ocean views without the heavy uphill pedaling.

2. Road Cycling (Performance)

For serious cyclists who want to tackle the "Cycle to the Sun" (sea level to 10,000 ft) or the scenic West Maui Loop.

  • Maui Cyclery (Go Cycling Maui): The go-to for performance road tours. They offer fully supported rides with carbon bikes and professional guides.

  • Maui Sunriders (Road Division): Offers guided road tours of the Iao Valley, the North Shore, and South Maui.

4. Casual & Family Rides

If you just want a flat, easy cruise by the beach.

  • South Maui: Rent beach cruisers in Kihei to ride the Kalama Park path or the coastal road toward Makena.

  • North Shore: The North Shore Greenway is a flat, paved path from Kahului to Paia, perfect for kids.

  • West Maui: Shops in Lahaina/Napili offer e-bike rentals for cruising the bike lanes along the Ka'anapali coast.
